Northern Rivers Bushwalkers Club — now Northern Rivers Outdoor Adventure Club 50th Anniversary Celebration
Callout to past members .
2026 marks a milestone that we’re incredibly excited about — our club’s 50th anniversary!
It all began in October 1976 with a single walk to Salty Lagoon in Broadwater National Park. Five decades later, we're still going strong, exploring trails, scaling cliffs, paddling waterways, and venturing to destinations near and far.
To celebrate this remarkable journey, we're planning special anniversary events throughout 2026 that honour our evolution and the outdoor adventures we love — bushwalking, cycling, kayaking, abseiling, and socialising. Please feel free to include this information in your club newsletter.
50th Anniversary Salty Lagoon Walk — Sunday, 11th October 2026 This iconic club grade 2 walk — the first ever club walk fifty years ago — will take us through the beautiful coastal heath, hopefully full of spring flowers, along the beach, and across dunes to the tranquil lakes of Salty Lagoon. The walk will be a leisurely stroll, with a morning tea/lunch stop at Salty Lagoon before returning the same way. Bring swimmers for a dip in the lagoon or sea. Past members who wish to join us, please contact Bill Boyd on nrbcnewsletter@gmail.com or 0490143018.
50th Anniversary Celebration Lunch — Saturday, 17th October 2026 We’re bringing together current and past members for a day of reminiscing and reconnecting at Moller Pavilion, Bangalow Showground. This celebratory lunch will be an opportunity to catch up with old friends, share club highlights and memories, and reliving 50 years of adventures together. Past members who wish to join us, please contact Linda Brannian at social2nrbc@gmail.com or 0409 833 888.
Tyalgum Adventures Weekend — 17th - 20th October 2026 Following the Bangalow lunch, join us for a multi-day adventure weekend in Tyalgum, making it convenient for those travelling for the anniversary celebration to participate in both events. Building on our five previous Tyalgum adventure weekends, we'll offer an expanded range of activities and difficulty levels to accommodate our anticipated larger group: bushwalking, cycling, kayaking, and plenty of socialising opportunities. There will be options for day trips for individual activities, a full weekend (late Saturday to Tuesday morning) of activities, and camping at Tyalgum Showground or staying at local accommodation. Past members who wish to join us, please contact Cam Palmer on camandcec@hotmail.com or 0413 117 142.
I look forward to seeing you in October.
