PRESIDENTS REPORT DECEMBER 2024
18th December 2024
By Michelle Jackson
What a wonderful year we have had at the Gold Coast Bushwalking club. Our membership has grown to 342 members, with new people registering all the time, and it's thanks to our wonderful leaders that we have such a healthy activity program. A special thanks to our coordinators who organise the events, months ahead.
We had a great Christmas party with approx 125 attending, a magnificent banquet with loads of a variety of salads and desserts, so thanks all for contributing to making it such a successful Christmas party. Such wonderful feedback that everyone enjoyed it so much, a relaxed atmosphere, and plenty of time to catch up with friends.
A special thanks to all of our volunteers, who made it possible, from the setting up, to the decorating, from the serving, to the slicing of the ham, the kitchen volunteers, our great bar guys, our lovely ladies at the front desk, our trusty tea lady and everyone who just stepped up and helped out where needed, we appreciate it so much.
It's our way of thanking our members, and it's something we all look forward to.
Our special presentation of the Quickenden award was awarded to Linda Mote, very well deserved.
We have a very special year coming up next year, the club's 50th anniversary, something to really celebrate. The club has grown over the years from 13 original members to now 342.
A special weekend is planned at the Canungra Showgrounds on the 8th and 9th of March.
Saturday we have a delicious BBQ lunch, a few speeches, with a toast of bubbly, with a special guest, and then, to top it off, a couple of hours of line dancing in the afternoon, so everyone can join in. It will be loads of fun. Just remember to bring a salad to share, a table, chair and your utensils, and register on Members Jungle. Registration closes on the 1st of March due to catering. So far, we have 60 booked, and it would be wonderful if we could reach 100.
The Pilgrimage that our club is organising is well under way with the venue booked at Beaudesert showgrounds on the 8th, 9th and 10th of August, and we have the meal booked at the RSL, just a short walk away, followed by the traditional bush dance on the Saturday night, more details to follow.
I would just like to take this opportunity to wish you (our members) and your family, a wonderful Christmas, enjoy your celebrations, and see you in the New Year,
Michelle Jackson
President
