President's Report October 2024

22nd October 2024
By Michelle Jackson

With our big 50th celebrations coming up next year, our club is going to host the 2025 Pilgrimage.

This is a fun weekend open to all clubs in South East Queensland under the banner of Bushwalking Queensland that come together to share a weekend of  walks/ activities , food and a special bush band and dance on the Saturday night.

We have been fortunate to book the Beaudesert showgrounds for this event on the 8th, 9th and 10th of August, 2025.  A special thanks to Anne Maclean who organised and Jane Thomas for accepting the handover of the boot on behalf of our club. So keep those dates free and we will be calling on our wonderful leaders  to organise walks and we need lots of volunteers to make sure this weekend runs smoothly.

We are still accepting nominations for our Quickenden award, and please submit for our photo competition to Jeff Crane, please note if you submit photos you will need to be at the club's Christmas party to accept your prize, the cut off date for these is 15th November 2024.

The committee has decided going forward that any future trips that are posted onto Members jungle - events, that they cannot be pre- filled, they need to be open to all members,  this has happened in the past which is frustrating for members wanting to attend these trips/camps. So if you do decide to put on a trip/camp please be aware that this is the fair way to do this, of course it is up to the leader to use their discretion that the person nominating is capable of the event. Other private trips can be done by any members , or groups, which is their decision and is not put into the Members' Jungle events .

Please nominate early for the annual Christmas party, we had a wonderful turnout last year of about 150 attending. Because of the catering involved we do need to know numbers early. It's up to you to organise your own tables either round 8 or long 12 and when you have that information please send those details through to Kerry Hamilton on kezham@hotmail.comalso the same as last year the club will provide the ham, chicken, a glass of bubbly or orange juice and we ask everyone to bring either a potato bake, salad or dessert to share, and nibbles and utensils for your own tables.

Salad and desserts will need to be pre-done, with serving utensils as there is no room in the kitchen for this.

A reminder that visitors will need to pay a fee of $20.00 per head.

We have a special presentation at our next general meeting on December 3rd, Craig Flett will present the wonderful walks of the Bernese Oberland Region in the Swiss Alps, a recent trip  hosted by the Northern River Club, so come along and be amazed by the spectacular scenery in the area.

We will also conduct the Leaders talk at the December meeting for those wanting to learn what is involved in becoming a leader.

Enjoy your activities

Michelle Jackson - president
