Gold Coast Bushwalkers President's Report July 2024
What a busy month it's been for so many in our club, firstly I am so pleased to announce that one of our very special members, Laura Ryan, has put her hand up for the membership officer role, so a massive thanks to Laura for taking on this role, we really appreciate it.
With a total of 296 members, and more joining every month, the club is growing all the time.
Special thanks to all those members who have volunteered for 2 very large events on the coast.
The Gold Coast marathon which had an amazing 30,000 entrants, what an amazing turnout, we had 25 volunteers from our club help out and what a very busy morning it was, at times very hectic. The participants were very thankful for the volunteers efforts. Organised by Ron who has done it for a number of years, I must say our station was very well organised. It raised $925.00 for our club, so a big thanks to all.
And the Kokoda challenge of which our club has contributed some much over its 19 year history.
Eileen and her teams did a lot of work with fundraising, over 2 full weekends with their sausage sizzle and raised over $3000, also the tickets sold on the boards also contributed.
Board 1 winners were 1 st $50.00- Simon, 2nd $30.00 Larriane, 3rd Lalia $20.00 and the second board 1st $50 Vincent , 2nd $30.00 Rodney and 3rd $20.00 Nola. And then we had 2 teams participate, one team in the 48km and one in the 96 km challenge, a mighty effort, so well done to the participants, well done.
Thanks to the volunteers who track marked and helped out on the checkpoints, it can't be run without the volunteers, a special thanks to John West on the support crew, he worked tirelessly and Helen Sheppard who opened her home to the support crew.
An amazing 2000 people participated, so many enthusiastic school teams and other groups of friends and workmates.
Our 50th Anniversary celebration next year has been posted on Members Jungle so please get in early and register.
Just a reminder to please consider our leaders who give up their time to put on activities, we have had some members nominate for multiple activities and not cancelling or contacting the leader if they can't make it.
Our next general meeting on August 6th, we will have Brenton giving a talk on the recent epic
Wales walk, so come along and enjoy the evening.
Enjoy your activity
