DW L T3 F3 Araucaria Lookout

This walk of 18km starts from Binna Burra and is named after the hoop pine (Araucaria cuninghamii).  We will pause at Joalah Lookout to look over Woggunba Valley to our destination and Mt Hobwee.  After the turning off from the Border Track, we continue down an easterly sloping ridge to Orchid Bower Lookout, an exposed ridge of rock covered with King Orchids when in flower and surrounded by some amazing old beech trees.  A climb of the rocks gives views over to Wagawn and Mt Hobwee.  We then follow the spur to the lookout, which is another exposed rocky outcrop, with views over the Numinbah Valley to Springbrook and past Wagawn to Mt Warning.  This is a drier rainforest with trees stunted by the wind and exposure.  The return journey is via the same route, but things always look different going the opposite direction.  It is a long walk, very pretty, no steep climbs nor difficult creek crossings.  Bring all essentials and afternoon tea to share at Binna Burra.
