Laidley Valley is about 2 hours from the Gold Coast, at the edge of the Little Liverpool Range. There is a large free campground here, Centenary Park Campground (https://www.luvyalockyer.com.au/centenary-park-camping-ground). Sites cannot be booked in advance, they are first come first served. Note that the maximum stay is 48 hours (i.e. 2 nights camping).

There are two nearby walks I'd like to do on the Saturday and Sunday: Mt Zahel and Mt Beau-Brummell.

Mt Zahel is described as "easily ascended from Laidley Gap. There are two summits, the western summit being especially attractive with an unusual combination of rainforest and dry eucalypt forest." Access should be possible from the start of the Scenic Rim Trail, at the end of Main Camp Creek Road. If there are landowner permission issues we can instead just walk up and back the Day 1 section of the Scenic Rim Trail.

Mt Beau-Brummell is described as "an easy return day trip for a reasonably fit group. It is a very special mountain and there are masses of magnificent grass trees in the vicinity. Both peaks are worth visiting. The final approaches on a couple of routes are extremely steep, although there shouldn’t be any climbing difficulties." Permits are needed for Mt Beau-Brummell via Ipswich City Council, so I will need to arrange this in advance once I know the number of walkers from our group. I understand the permits are free but I can clarify closer to the date.

We can have the usual Christmas in July festivities on the Saturday night at camp.

Please register for this event if you are interested in attending - you don't need to book anything yet as the campground is free. Once I know potential numbers and who is interested, I can organise access/permit enquiries for the two hikes.
