[FULLY BOOKED] TW Iron Pot Creek Gorge F4 T5
An overnight hike for experienced off-trackers in Toonumbar National Park near Kyogle. It’s about a 2.5 hour drive from the Gold Coast. Camp at Iron Pot Creek campground on the Friday night which can be booked online at https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/camping-and-accommodation/campgrounds/iron-pot-creek-campground and is accessible by 2WD vehicle. Works out cheaper if you share a campsite.
The Toonumbar Forest Drive is currently closed until Winter 2025, so we will walk up Iron Pot Creek through the gorge on the Saturday, camp, and then walk back down the creek on the Sunday.
The walk will involve getting wet feet and possibly wading through waist-deep water if water levels remain high. Waterproof your gear as much as possible and be prepared for rough conditions. Expect at least 6 hours of walking each day. The campsite will be a scrubby remote bush camp at a suitable flat spot in the rainforest once we've walked through the gorge section. Leave no trace and ensure your gear is all scrubbed clean before starting the walk. Try to avoid carrying too much weight otherwise it will make the rockhopping and creek-walking more difficult and slow.
The hike won't go ahead if rain is forecast or if water levels are too high.
