DW L T3F3 Albert River
This rainforest walk of 21km is one of Lamington’s best. Leaving O'Reilly’s we follow the Border track for 4.5kms. We then leave the Beech Forest to descend 5km to the Albert River and Lightning Falls. We then follow the Albert River upstream through a forest of Coachwood and Antarctic Beech with several waterfalls, crossing into New South Wales for lunch at Echo Point with spectacular views of The Valley of Echoes, Mt Wagawn and the Tweed Range. After lunch there is a gradual climb 3kms with further views of the Tweed Caldera before reaching the Border Track almost at the same spot we left it 12kms before. It is then an easy downhill walk back to O'Reilly’s. This is a long walk (but not hard) so a steady pace will be maintained on a well-formed track with a few slippery creek crossings. Bring plenty of food, water, leech repellent and wet weather gear.
