We usually start at Southbank, there is parking in the side streets near Southbank railway station, down Stephens Road, so people can come by train or car.
Ride down Vulture St, cross Grey St, and use the bike access there down to Southbank. Turn right and follow the river downstream past Kangaroo Point Cliffs where they do the rock climbing. There are toilets here.
Continue on downriver onto MacDonald St, past Briabane Jazz Club, under the Storey Bridge, follow the river till the path runs out and turn right up onto Dockside Walk and onto the road, then turn left onto Ferry Street, cross the road at the top and turn right on the footpath to ride over the Storey Bridge.
On the other side, keep turning left and go down Ivory Lane to Boundary St. Turn left here, cross the road and you are on to the River walkway.
This takes you all the way to the Botanic Gardens, ride on through there. At the end, it comes out to the QUT and turn left here to cross over bridge number 2, Goodwill Bridge to Southbank.
Turn right on the other side, ride along the river past Southbank till you come to bridge 3, Victoria Bridge, there is a circular path up to the top on your left. To go over this bridge, turn left on the other side and not far along find a ramp down to the river, ride along under the freeway, turn right up a ramp for Bicentennial Bikeway to Kurilpa Bridge, at the top cross North Quay and ride up Herschel Street, turn right on George St and right again on Tank St and this will take you onto bridge 4, Kurilpa Bridge.
On the other side, go left in front of GOMA and along a bit further to a coffee shop at the other end of the State Library building. Head back along the river, part GOMA and immediately turn left up the path to the roundabout onto Montague Road, turn left into the car park of the Riverside Hotel which will take you through to a left onto Peel St, then left again onto the footpath to go over bridge 5, William Jolley Bridge.
On the other side, cross over North Quay, pass the park on the left and turn left onto Eagle St, go right down Quay St, left into Exford St, then cross over and follow the footpath beside the Riverside Expressway until you can veer slightly right onto a path turning left to take you across the river. Turn left, down river, along the Bicentennial Bikeway and turn right onto bridge 6, Go BetweenBridge.
On the other side follow round to the right on the footpath until you can turn right down to the riverside. Follow the Riverside Drive, which turns into Hillend Terrace, then Orleigh St through to Orleigh Park Ferry. There are toilets here too. Turn left uphill, onto Hoogley Terrace, which after 2 or 3 blocks veers to the right and ends at a T-junction, turn right onto Hardgrave Rd which becomes Doornoch Terrace. At the end of this road turn right onto Gladstone Road, and after a great downhill, you turn right at the lights, across Gladstone Road, to go over bridge 7, The Green Bridge, to St Lucia. Be sure to follow the signs on the concrete to go over the bridge and not around under it, think it’s a slight right to stay on the bridge.
On the St Lucia side, turn left off the bridge, go down to the river and turn right along the river. Use the road here. The gravel path on the left is only for walkers. At the end of the university grounds, this road will come out to a left turn onto Upland Rd which becomes The Esplanade, then Hillside Terrace, a few good hills here, uphill to St Lucia Golf Links on Carawa St, where you can go left in the entrance, left past toilets and café to sit on the lawn with BYO lunch or buy at the cafe. Go back out the same driveway, turn left onto Carawa St and left at the roundabout onto Indooroopilly Rd, then right at the next roundabout onto Lambert Rd, follow this all the way to Indooroopilly train station, turn left onto a Bikeway and cross bridge 8, Walter Taylor Bridge.
On the other side turn right down Wharf St, then left into Roseberry Terrace, next right into Luxford St, then left into Queenscroft St which turns into Hargreaves Ave, then left into Leybourne St and Nadine St, following the river. Go left onto Graceville Av across Bridge 9, Pamphlett Bridge, follow along through Qld Tennis Centre, another option for lunch if doing good time, there are lawns down on the river, in front of the café where you can get take-away food and coffee. Carry on through the tennis centre, right onto abortive St and left onto Fairfield Rd. Ride the footpath here until you can cross the road at the lights, over a small bridge onto Cardross St which turns left, then turn right onto School Rd. Follow on to Yeronga swimming pools where you can turn left into the car park and onto a path through the parkland to Memorial Av, turn right here and ride up to the RSL cenotaph then left onto Ipswich Rd, cross Villa St, and then cross Ipswich Rd at the lights and go along Cracknell Rd to a roundabout where you go left into Ekibin Rd, steep downhill where you need to stop at the bottom to see the traffic before crossing over Ekibin Rd onto Amwood Place, ride to end of the cup de sac, go onto a path and turn left onto SEFreeway Bikewaywhich crosses under the M1 and along Norman Ck to Stones Corner. Just before the park ends turn left across the park to go up Fern St, then right onto SEFreeway Bikeway and left onto O’Keefe St footpath, under M1, along a block or so, you can cross over at lights, turn right along the footpath and up a ramp to SEFreeway Bikeway which takes you back to Southbank. Sometimes a coffee or beer stop is good here at The Ship Inn. Then go uphill on Sidon St, cross over Grey St and ride along Vulture St footpath back to Southbank train station.
